Fiordineve (“Snowflower”) Cozzi Sensei began practising Aikido in 1978 at age 13, in his home town of Lauria. His first teacher was Vittorio Laiso Sensei, who was one of the earliest Italian Akido teachers in the south of Italy. During his time at this dojo, Fiordineve had the opportunity to study with Sensei Hideki Hosokawa and Jun Nomoto Sensei. In 1983 he moved to Naples to attend University, and continued to study Aikido with Masatomi Ikeda Sensei. He received Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) from Yoji Fujimoto Sensei in Rome, in 1985. In 1988 he received Nidan, (2nd Degree) in 1993 Sandan (3rd Degree) and in 1999 Yondan (4th Degree), all from Tada Hiroshi Sensei, 9th Dan, who is a direct student of O Sensei, Morihei Ueshiba.
In 1990, Fiordineve Sensei opened the "Shizentai Dojo" in Lauria. He continued studying Aikido for 7 years with Sensei Kaoru Kurihara, who combines Aikido with the study of "Misogi," a meditative practice that includes spiritual exercises to be undertaken under natural waterfalls, to boost awareness of one's own inner energy. In 1998 Fiordineve opened a second dojo in the town of Scalea.
From 2003 until the present, he has given over 90 Courses, 31 at his own dojo, contributing to the development of Aikido in Italy, as well as attending over 300 Courses himself since he first began Aikido training. In 2006, the governing body of Aikikai in Italy appointed him as Instructor of Children's Aikido Teachers for the whole of Italy. He provides regular Teacher Training sessions in conjunction with a University Professor of Pedagogy, who provides most of the theoretical part of the training.
In 2007 Hiroshi Tada Sensei recognized Fiordineve Cozzi Sensei as having reached 5th Dan standard in his Aikido development. He has provided Dan Grading sessions and has awarded black belts to students from 13 different dojo. For many years he has been committed to the dissemination of Aikido, and has given lectures and conducted demonstrations of Aikido at state schools and universities, as well as to organisations which help earthquake victims, and sick and disadvantaged children.
